The Henley Post is an independent news and information site for Henley-on-Thames and south Oxfordshire. We work from public records, we cite them, and we are not connected to the council or to anyone we report on.
The patch
Henley is the anchor, on the Thames with the bridge, the regatta course and the Chilterns rising behind it. Upstream are Goring, Wallingford and Benson; north east are Thame, Chinnor and Watlington; and Didcot sits at the western end, much larger than any of the others and growing. The villages between belong to whichever town they shop in. We name the actual place in every story rather than writing “south Oxfordshire” and leaving you to work it out.
What we report
South Oxfordshire District Council’s planning register and committee papers, licensing notices, police.uk crime data, HM Land Registry sold prices, Food Standards Agency hygiene ratings, Environment Agency flood warnings for the Thames and its tributaries, and company filings in The Gazette. The Thames floods here, and we report the official warnings rather than the version going round. Parts of the district lie within the Chilterns designated landscape, which affects what can be built and where, and we say so when it applies.
Reorganisation in 2028
Most of South Oxfordshire is due to be absorbed in April 2028 into a new Ridgeway unitary authority, formed with the Vale of White Horse and West Berkshire. Not every parish in the district is going to the same place, so which authority ends up responsible for a given village is worth watching. We will report the detail from the published documents as it is settled rather than guessing, and our reference pages will name whoever actually answers.
